About the VW Type 3
The Volkswagen Type 3, introduced in 1961, is a versatile and stylish air-cooled classic that holds a special place in VW history. While not as widely known as other classic VWs, such as the iconic Beetle, the Type 3 brought new design and engineering elements to Volkswagen’s line-up, offering a more refined and spacious alternative.
The Type 3 came in three variations – Fastback, Notchback and Squareback. It was given a facelift in 1970 which increased the nose length by 115mm and added 42L to the luggage capacity. The VW Type 3 sadly ceased production in 1973, as the Wolfsburg plant prepared to begin production of the Golf.
