About the Karmann Ghia
Codenamed the Type 14 by VW, the Karmann Ghia was manufactured between 1955 and 1974 in both Germany and Brazil. The Karmann Ghia is the brainchild of Carrozzeria Ghia, a car design firm, Karmann, a coachbuilding firm and VW, who wanted to create a halo model to complement the Beetle.
The Karmann Ghia started production in 1955 and was incredibly well-received. The higher-end model was a reflection of post-war living, as countries were recovering from the Second World War. Shortly after, the Karmann Ghia Convertible was produced.
For the next 20 years, the Karmann Ghia design remained largely unchanged and became a hugely popular vehicle in the US and western European markets.

Type 14 Karmann Ghia Coupe (1955–1974)
The original Type 14 Coupe remains the most recognised Karmann Ghia.

Type 34 Karmann Ghia (1961–1969)
Built on the Volkswagen Type 3 platform, the Type 34 was larger, more luxurious and considerably rarer than the Type 14.
