We’re committed to planting at least 300,000 trees by 2031, and are funding this tree planting via Carma as they’ve got a proven track record for getting trees planted across the UK and beyond.

We Plant a Tree For Every JK Insurance Policy

JK Insurance and our sister company Just Kampers have pledged to plant more than 300,000 trees before 2032, and are directly funding projects, out of the company profits, to get these trees planted in Kenya and Tanzania in East Africa.

We’ll be paying to have a tree planted every time someone takes out a vehicle insurance policy with JK Insurance, or when someone renews their existing policy.

This won’t cost our customers a penny – JK Insurance will be funding this huge tree planting project ourselves, as a way of helping the environment we all share.

Just Kampers, our sister company, will also fund the planting of a tree for every order they receive over £200.

With so much bad news in the media all the time, it felt important to us to take some active steps and make a positive impact, rather than burying our heads in the sand. That’s why JK Insurance and Just Kampers will be paying to get 5,000 trees per month, which works out to 60,000 trees planted each year!

We’re working with Carma to get these trees planted, as they have a proven track record of getting thousands of trees planted across the UK and around the world.

How Many Trees is JK Insurance Planting?

By 2031 between JK Parts and JK Insurance we will have provided funding for 300,000 trees planted. That works out to 60,000 trees per year, or 5,000 trees each month.

The planting itself will be handled by Carma and their team, who will ensure that the right types of trees are planted in the right areas, at the right time of year, so that every tree planted has the best chance of growing and thriving.

We’ll be planting a tree every time someone takes out an insurance policy with JK Insurance, as well as whenever someone renews their existing JK Insurance policy.

The team at Just Kampers will also pay for a tree to be planted every time they get an order over £200.

The map below shows where the trees we’ve funded have been planted, or are due to be planted.
Since the trees need to be planted at the right stage in their growth, and at the right time of year, it can take up to 18 months to actually get the trees in the ground.

Who are Carma?

We’ve teamed up with Carma to get these trees planted, as they have a proven track record already after funding the planting of more than 1,700,000 trees!

Set up in 2022 by Royal Navy veteran Jim Holland, Carma is working to make a real impact on the environment while also supporting Veterans here in the UK as they resettle into civilian life.

They also ensure that UK Veterans are employed to lead their tree planting days, work with the charity HighGround in supporting Veterans to bring their skills to the forestry team, and donate 3% of their revenue to the Stand Tall Foundation.

Why did JK Insurance pair with Carma?

We chose to run our tree planting project with Carma as we’re impressed with their dedication to operating ethically and sustainably, as well as the work they’ve done to help support veterans in the UK to find work and adjust to civilian life.

This is another cause which is important to the JK Insurance team, and since Carma got started in 2022 it has donated more than £230,000 to veteran charities, and works with HighGrounds and the Standing Tall Foundation.

HighGrounds

For every 1,000 trees that Carma plants in the UK, they’ll donate £400 directly to HighGround Rural Weeks courses.

These courses are organised by the UK charity HighGround, which helps service leavers, veterans and reservists find new purpose through careers in the land-based sector.

Standing Tall Foundation

3% of all Carma gross revenues are committed to the Standing Tall Foundation (STF).

The STF is a UK-based charity dedicated to improving the mental and physical wellbeing of individuals from all walks of life, including veterans.

Certified B Corporation

Carma is also a Certified B Corporation, which means that the whole business has been independently assessed for social and environmental performance, and has met the legal requirement for Certified B Corporations.

How and Where Does Carma Plant Trees?

Carma is involved with a number of different tree planting projects around the world, which are selected based on environmental need, social impact, and their verification standards.

All of the trees funded via Carma are carefully planted at the right time of year and on the right land to maximise their chances for long-term survival. This can mean that trees can take up to 18 months to go in the ground, to give them the best start.

The tree planting itself is carried out by partners which Carma has vetted and who have proven expertise in tree planting, with many of their trees being planted by veterans.

Carma tree planting in the UK

Here in the UK, Carma plants trees as part of the Community Forest Trust which supports, enables and champions fifteen different Community Forests across England. Each of these community forests are creating woodlands which ensure that urban areas are economically, socially, and environmentally more sustainable and resilient for everyone.

The Community Forest Trust is also independently managed by government-backed woodland officers, to ensure that everything is running sustainably.

Carma tree planting in Africa

Vital mangrove forests are disappearing rapidly across coastal regions in Kenya, Tanzania, and beyond. Carma and their local partners are working to restore estuaries rich in biodiversity which act as storm barriers, create fishing grounds, and support fair local income for communities who rely on them.

This is where the trees funded by JK Insurance, and our sister company Just Kampers, will be planted.

Carma kelp planting in Canada

Kelp forests have declined by over 40% globally in the last 50 years, and Carma are working in British Columbia to restore these underwater forests. They’re vital for marine life, coastal fisheries, indigenous communities, and natural carbon storage in our oceans, and their regrowth is vitally important to all of us.

Where can I learn more about Carma?

There’s much more information about Carma available on their website, carma.earth, where you can find out more about how they work, what their goals are, and how you can get involved.

Does JK Insurance earn any money from this tree planting initiative?

No, JK Insurance doesn’t make any money from the tree-planting project we’re running with Carma.

Where will JK Insurance’s trees be planted?

We have opted for the trees which we’re funding to be planted in Africa, especially across coastal regions in Kenya, Tanzania, and beyond, where mangrove forests are disappearing fast.

The work that Carma and their partners undertake is vital to help restore natural river estuaries which are rich in biodiversity and also act as storm barriers, while creating fishing grounds and supporting fair local income for communities who rely on them.

A number of factors have left these vital mangrove ecosystems damaged or destroyed, and this deforestation impacts livelihoods of entire communities who rely on mangroves for fishing, food, and income.

Without the robust mangrove forests, coastlines are more vulnerable to erosion, storms hit local communities harder, and poverty deepens.

That’s why we’re so pleased to be working with Carma and their partners, to help restore mangrove estuaries with replanting.

We’ll plant a tree when you take out vehicle insurance with JK Insurance, and plant another every year when you renew your insurance policy with us, too!

It’s part of our drive to make a positive impact on the world around us.
