What Do You Currently Drive?
Make / Model / Year:
1967 VW Karmann Ghia
Engine, Wheels, Paint Colour:
2007cc engine, twin 45 DRLA carbs, FK10 cam, Street Eliminator heads, Berg rockers
Any other cool accessories:
4″ narrowed beam, dropped spindles, fully built gearbox with close ratio 3rd and 4th, 5.5″ Front + 6″ Rear Porsche (Flat 4) Fuch Alloys. The Ghia is an unrestored car, so the interior is completely original.
How long have I owned it, and how did I get it?
I’ve owned my Ghia 26 years, I bought this Ghia and a VW Beetle all in for £1600 many moons ago. I eventually sold the Beetle and kept the Ghia as it had fewer issues to deal with, so the sale of the Beetle helped pay for the repairs to the Ghia.
How long have you been Interested in VWs?
I’ve been into classic VWs since I was a kid. My Dad had a GT Beetle and my first experience of the Volkswagen scene was when I attended Bug Jam in 1989 with my Dad. I actually bought my first Beetle at 12 years old with pocket money.
Any interesting holidays and trips you have taken it on?
I’ve been all over the UK attending VW shows, and raced the Ghia at Santa Pod, achieving a 13.9 elapsed time with the fan belt and muffler attached.
Any other interesting bits about your Cal-Look VW Karmann Ghia?
When I bought this I actually bought this with a Beetle all for the pricely sum of £1600. The Beetle had a narrowed beam, which I quickly removed and installed on the Ghia, giving it a purposeful nose-down attitude. The interior is bone stock, and eventually, I will embark on a light restoration of the car.
Do you own any other VWs?
I currently own a ’61 Ragtop Beetle, which won best of show in 2015 at Volksworld. I also own a ’69 Deluxe Bay Window, which is undergoing a restoration. In my lifetime, I’ve owned a ’67 Beetle, ’69 Beetle, two ’71 Beetles, ’74 GT Beetle, ’87 16v MK2 Golf, 2005 MK5 GTI, and a 2011 MK6 GTD.
