JK Insurance Sales Team Supervisor

Martin Bowles

Role: JK Insurance Sales Team Supervisor

Time with Just Kampers Insurance:
29 years

What Do You Currently Drive?

Make / Model / Year:
1991 Volkswagen Corrado G60

Engine, Wheels, Paint Colour:
1.8 Supercharged, 16” BBS style wheels, LA7U Pearl Grey Metallic paint

Any other cool accessories:
Full interior retrim, Coilovers, Full Exhaust with 4 branch manifold, Chip, Smaller Supercharger Pulley & Stage one Charger, lightened flywheel, probably more that I’ve forgotten

How long have I owned it, and how did I get it?
I’ve had this one for 15 years
now. I was looking to buy a Corrado VR6, but I couldn’t find one in the right condition within my budget, and the G60 popped up locally to me, so I just went to “have a look”, and it came home with me.

How long have you been Interested in VWs?

I’ve always been car mad since I was little, starting with Matchbox / Hot Wheels, then messing around with RC cars before passing my test and getting into the real thing!

My early driving years were mostly dominated by Fast Fords (being an Essex Boy born and bred ) until my early twenties, when, on one of the many occasions my Escort RS Turbo I owned at the time was broken down, a work colleague lent me his VW Mk2 Golf Gti, and I was converted!

I now have a car-mad son, too, who is filling up my drive with various “projects”.

Any interesting holidays and trips you have taken it on?

It used to be my everyday car, so I’ve done multiple UK holidays, shows and even the odd trackday in the past 15 years, but its now retired to weekend and fun use only.

Last year we did a road trip too and drove around Switzerland in our Audi S1, including driving the legendary Furka Pass, and I would love to do this again in the Corrado (I’m not sure my wife would agree to go all that way without the creature comforts and reliability of our more modern cars, though).

Any other interesting bits about your VW Corrado G60?

The car has done almost 200k miles now, which I think is quite impressive given the G60’s reputation for being a bit fragile and unreliable.

It’s been off the road for a few years now (it was only planned to be a few weeks initially, but I got carried away) for some fairly extensive (engine out) restoration as given the mileage it was starting to show its age in a few areas but its going back together now and I’m hoping to have it out again in 2026.

Do you own any other VWs?

No, but we have a couple of other VAG group cars – An Audi S1 Competition and a modified Mk1 Audi TT. My wife and I both love Campers, so we have been talking about potentially getting one in the future, so watch this space!
