What Do You Currently Drive?
Make / Model / Year:
VW Beetle, 1970
Engine, Wheels, Paint Colour:
1600cc fitted with a progressive Weber 32/36 carburettor and a Just Kampers Stainless Steel merged header and single quiet pack exhaust system, Black paint.
Any other cool accessories:
Midly lowered and fitted with replica Porsche Fuch alloy wheels. I’ve also fitted some new gauges in the dash to keep an eye on oil temp, voltage and engine revs.
How long have I owned it, and how did I get it?
I’ve owned my Beetle for 2 years now, and it’s been a journey already. Having found some small rust issues that needed addressing, they quickly became a bit more of an issue, so these were quickly dealt with. This ended up resulting in a new driver’s side heater channel and floorpan half being fitted. This was a great opportunity to make use of the great parts Just Kampers has to offer. The repairs and improvements have been documented on the Just Kampers YouTube channel.
How long have you been Interested in VWs?
Well, I’ve done well to resist for so long, but inevitably it was going to happen and before I knew it, I was taking the plunge and getting my very own classic Volkswagen. It’s also my first classic car, and a Beetle is a great choice for your first classic – especially if you have access to a warehouse of parts and a whole team of people who can help you learn how to maintain, repair and insure your ride.
Any interesting holidays and trips you have taken it on?
I’ve been to a fair few UK shows in my Beetle, from the Cool Flo Summer Cruise nights, to Classic’s in the Clubhouse, Beach Dubbin, Endless Summer and I even drove my bug to Chimay, Belgium for European Bug In, but I didn’t quite make it all the way due to a fueling issue, so we had to leave the beetle in France and carry onwards to Chimay.
Any other interesting bits about your VW Beetle?
I personally like the bright Ivory coloured interior with the Black exterior of my Beetle. I might start by getting new seat covers and refreshing the interior. Then I’ll look at putting it back to stock height, and maybe changing the wheels. Maybe give it a bit of a rally look, and possibly put a supercharger on it. Watch this space…
Do you own any other VWs?
No, this is my first classic Volkswagen Beetle, and now that I’ve sorted the majority of its issues i’m going to enjoy every mile of driving it.
Why compromise on insuring your precious vehicle when we'll give you £50* if we are not the cheapest.
